Our family, looking after yours

A truly independent, mother-and-daughter family firm.

Clarkson's has been independently owned since 2004 by Carol Spalding and her daughter Sophie May. We are not part of any national chain — which means every decision we make is in service of the family in front of us, not a head office.

From our offices in Bath, Frome and Saltford, our small team — Louise, Alana, Anne, Carol and Sophie — care for families across Somerset, North Somerset, Bristol and Wiltshire with the personal attention only an independent can offer.

"At times of bereavement, you need to know that your nearest and dearest are being looked after in a caring and personal way."

Frequently Asked Questions

Questions families often ask

What should I do first when someone has died?

The very first thing is to call us — at any time, day or night. We'll talk you through what needs to happen, including registering the death and arranging for your loved one to come into our care. There is nothing you need to prepare before calling.

How quickly can a funeral be arranged?

Typically a funeral takes place 1–3 weeks after the death, though we can move faster for religious requirements (such as Jewish or Muslim funerals) or slower if the family needs more time. We adapt entirely to your circumstances.

Do you offer non-religious or alternative ceremonies?

Yes — we embrace all faiths and none. We have strong relationships with humanist celebrants, interfaith ministers and independent celebrants, and we'll happily advise on what might suit your family.

Can I pay for my funeral in advance?

Yes. We offer regulated prepaid funeral plans, which fix the cost of our services at today's prices and remove the financial burden from your loved ones when the time comes. Ask us about our plans on your next call.

Are your prices really transparent?

Yes — we are signatories of the Fair Funerals Pledge. Our full standardised price list is published on this website, and we will never charge more than what we've quoted you.

Here when you need us — day or night.

Whatever the time, whatever the question, please don't hesitate. A member of our family will answer.
